When is it Time for a New Website?

The web industry is dynamic and always in flux. Gone are the days of scrolling banners and comic sans. Well, mostly gone. If either of those apply to your current website, read no further because your time has come. You need a redesign.

But, if your current website is still functioning and looks more or less presentable, when do you know when it is time to change? The answer to this question can be found by asking yourself a few questions about your business:

  • What is the purpose of my website?
  • Are visitors spending time on the site or are they quickly leaving the page?
  • Is the content current and accurate?
  • Does the design look dated?
  • Am I taking advantage of the potential my business has to offer online?

In some cases your website may not be a relic of the early 2000’s but it could use a face-lift to keep current. A web design company like us will update about every 12 months, so if you’re in a high-tech or design-oriented industry you will want to revisit it more often. For most businesses you can generally expect your website design to be out-of-date by the third year. The standard layout of pages will have changed and what was in style then will be reaching a state of antiquity.

You may say, why should I redesign? I’m still getting the occasional call from clients who perused my site and decided I was worth looking into. The question is, how many of these potential clients went to your site, saw a website on the other side of maturity and looked somewhere else? An updated theme, with features that don’t scream 2005 will go a long way to project the image that you really care about the service, goods, or information you wish to provide.
